EXPERIENCE:From the time you drive up to the river, park your car on the historic cobblestones lining the riverfront, to stepping onto one of the riverboats and look over to see the paddlewheel, you are in the perfect place to learn about the tales of river life spun by Mark Twain, to hear of the Sultana (one of the worst American maritime disasters to date) and listen to the story of Hopefield, AR come to life. Live historical commentary will teach you about the importance and beauty of the Mighty Mississippi.

If the idea of a lazy riverboat ride is a little too tame for you, why not check into the airboat rides offered seasonally. From jumping waves, to doing doughnuts off of sandbars, a trip on the airboats will give you a unique and thrilling view of the Mighty Mississippi. The ride is 30 minutes and costs $30 (plus tax) per person with a minimum of three people. Maximum capacity for the airboat is 6 passengers. Note: for safety reasons, ages 6 and under are not allowed on board the airboat.

Dinner cruises offer a romantic night under the stars with the city lights in the background. Dance the night away on the 2-hour cruise featuring a meal, live band and cash & credit bar on board. Prices (before tax) range from $45 to $30 depending on the age of the passenger.

HISTORY:In the early 1980s Memphis was preparing to open the Mud Island River Park and the riverboats were to play a part. In 1983 “Capt Tom” completed the Island Queen, a 100-foot long vessel which has been the site for hundreds of dance cruises. She was joined by the Memphis Queen II, the Memphis Queen III and the Memphis Showboat, an in-dock facility.

INSIDERS TIP:Snack bar is available on board. Gift packages are available for anniversaries, birthday or other special events. Pictures are available at the end of your cruise for the cost of $7 or 2 for $10.

OTHER INFO:Reservations needed only for dinner and holiday cruises. If you preorder tickets, they are not mailed but will be held on dock for you to pick up. The boats run go out rain or shine and life jackets are available for emergency use only.
