Three Memphis Music Attractions Named Best in the World

Readers of USA TODAY's 10Best have named Graceland (ranked #1), Sun Studio (ranked #2) and Stax Museum of American Soul Music (ranked #5) as three of the Best Musical Attractions in the world. Readers were asked to vote for their favorite musical attractions from a pool of 20 expertly selected museums, memorials, historic studios and record stores from across the globe.

Opened June 7, 1982, Graceland is one of the most famous rock 'n' roll residences in the world. Visitors get inside access to where Elvis lived, relaxed and spent time with his family and friends. Graceland was designated a National Historic Landmark in March of 2006 and today welcomes over 600,000 visitors a year.

In 2013, Graceland beat out the Grand Canyon, Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore to be named the Best Iconic American Attraction by the readers of 10Best.

Sam Phillips opened Sun Studio in 1950, hoping to capture the pure, raw energy of Beale Street. In 1954, an unknown Elvis Presley walked inside Sun, grabbed a mic and sang his heart out, making Sun the most famous recording studio in the world. Visitors get a guided tour through the birthplace of rock 'n’ roll, experience outtakes from recording sessions, touch Elvis' first microphone and hear the real story of the studio that launched the careers of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, B.B. King, Roy Orbison, Charlie Rich and more.

Located on the original site of the Stax Records studio, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music pays tribute to the artists who recorded there (Otis Redding, Booker T. and The MGs, Rufus Thomas, Sam and Dave), as well as other American soul legends. The amazing collection at Stax Museum encompasses more than 2,000 artifacts, interactive exhibits, films and galleries.
