Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park

Spanning 12,549 acres, there are plenty of activities for every interest. We have over 20 miles of hiking trails that travel through the forest of large oaks, cypress trees and other hardwood specimens. Two-thirds of the park's total acreage consists of heavy forest areas. Check out the local wildlife. Don't be surprised if you spot an American Bald Eagle amidst the 200 species of songbirds, waterfowl, songbirds and birds of prey. There are also deer, turkey, beaver, fox, otter and bobcats. One of the most popular amenities is the disc golf course. The 36-hole, wooded course is divided into two 18-hole courses offering a challenging game for both beginners and advanced players. There are activities around every corner.

Grab your fishing gear and head to Poplar Tree Lake where you can rent kayaks, canoe, pedal boats and jon boats. You can fish for bass, bream or catfish from either the bank or pier. We also have an ADA accessible canoe/kayak launch.

Although the park does not have its own stable of horses for rent, there is an 8-mile trail dedicated specifically for horses and their riders. If you're looking to have a wedding, family or business event/meeting we have shelters and other facilities available. We also have areas to picnic and cook out at Poplar Tree Lake.

If you'd like to spend a few days at the park, there are 49 campsites equipped with tables, grills, electrical and water hookups and a convenient modern bathhouse for hot showers. If camping out is not your ideal accommodation, check out their vacation cabins. There are six cabins available for rent. The park provides linens, television, and fully equipped kitchen. Each cabin contains two Queen beds and a pull out couch. There is a working fireplace in each cabin and firewood is provided during the winter months.
