The Beauty Shop is a local favorite and the brain child of Memphis-native Karen Blockman Carrier. Karen swapped her paint brushes for pots and pans and thankfully - has never looked back. Of course, no simple decor would suit as the backdrop for her creative cuisine. This hip restaurant is located in the heart of the Cooper-Young Entertainment District in a former 1940s-style beauty shop. The original hair dryers add to the ambiance and the glass-bricked booths give fun and funky seating for groups of 4-6. When you go, expect American cuisine but with a twist. Think tunza pizzette, watermelon and wings, bar steak, grilled peaches with blue cheese and balsamic syrup, steak fritte, herb crusted trout, cheese grits & succotash, crispy duck with cinnamon paprika sugar and mustard-seed seared scallops. Check out their brunch where you can get beignets, chicken and waffles, and one of the best (Bad Boy) bloody marys in town. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Save room for jaw-dropping desserts. They serve a delicious coconut, caramel and strawberry cake in addition to other local favorites including crepes and Creme Brulee. They have a full bar and offer awesome cocktails. It is a busy place, so reservations are recommended.
