Fusion: Featuring New Works by Jin & John Powell

ANF Architects is pleased to announce Fusion, a dynamic joint exhibition featuring the work of artists Jin Powell and John Powell. The exhibition will open with a reception on Friday, May 9th, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the ANF Architects Gallery, located at 1500 Union Avenue in Memphis.

Guided by the idea that “the richness of an artist is the fusion of influences that have shaped their life, along with their work,” Fusion brings together twenty new mixed-media pieces that blend wood and metal in compelling and unexpected ways. These sculptural works highlight the synergy between two unique creative voices who share not only a studio but also a lifelong partnership.

Jin Powell earned a BFA from the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing and an MFA from the Memphis College of Art. She was a resident artist with the esteemed Seward Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture, and her work reflects a deep understanding of form, balance, and cultural duality. John Powell earned his BFA from the University of Memphis and brings over 35 years of experience as a design draftsman for architects and engineers in both Memphis and Atlanta. His precision-driven design background lends structure and spatial clarity to the pair’s sculptural pieces. Together, they founded 2Js Studio in 1996, a 15,000-square-foot sculpture facility equipped with a wood shop, metal shop, foundry for sand and investment casting, and advanced digital fabrication tools.

In celebration of the artists’ cultural roots and creative fusion, the reception will also feature a live performance by three Chinese musicians playing traditional instruments, including the Pipa and Erhu—a perfect complement to the exhibition’s spirit of artistic and cultural convergence.

Admission is FREE, and guests will enjoy complimentary soft drinks, wine, and snacks. All pieces will be available for purchase with cash, check, Venmo, or PayPal. If you’re unable to attend the opening, the exhibition will be open for viewing at ANF on weekdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm from May 9th to June 6th, 2025.
