What is the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art?
Since its inception in 1916, the Brooks Museum has been a cultural hub for the city of Memphis and its surrounding area, growing to become one of the largest art museums in the region.
Guests are invited to explore 15 galleries of world art, as well as attend workshops, classes, art history programs and weekly live music performances.
Located in Midtown Memphis’ Overton Park, the museum is just a 10- to 15-minute drive from Downtown Memphis. It’s also just a couple blocks from popular Midtown hangouts: the Overton Square Performing Arts District and Cooper-Young — both great spots to find nightlife, shopping and fabulous dining.
Galleries at the Brooks Museum
Across 15 galleries, visitors will be amazed by Memphis' art collection. Through temporary and ongoing exhibits, browse a variety of art forms, including paintings, sculptures, kinetic art installations, handmade paper creations, photography and more.

Programming and Events at the Brooks Museum
Along with its stunning collection, the Brooks Museum offers programs, workshops, classes and events to show your creative side.
Don’t miss upcoming live music events at the museum, including "Echoes of Reflection: Spatial Polyphony and Antiphony" (Feb. 5, 2026) and "with abundance we breathe" (April 23, 2026). Families love the Super Saturday art-making workshops. This hands-on program runs every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Plus, keep your eye on the calendar for cultural celebrations, like the Lunar New Year (Feb. 21, 2026) and Holi (March 21, 2026). Hone your skills at a figure drawing class. Adult artists of all skill levels are invited to practice their drawing at the museum five times each month. The Brooks also hosts art talks and presentations, including "Art & Aperitifs: Paper Bullets and Queer Resistance with Jeffrey H Jackson" (Jan. 18, 2026) and "Ideas Over lunch: Arts Education in Memphis."

The Café and Store at The Brooks Museum
If you get hungry while browsing the art, stop into the on-site café to fuel up between galleries.
Don’t forget to stop by the museum store to grab a souvenir. Inside, you’ll find apparel, art prints, exhibit merchandise and handmade goods from local artisans, including jewelry, glass art, candles and more.
Memphis Art Museum
The Brooks Museum is moving downtown and rebranding as the Memphis Art Museum in late 2026. At the corner of Union Ave. and Front St., the new property will include classrooms, a theater, flexible gallery space, an on-site restaurant, a community courtyard at the center of the museum, a 50,000-square foot rooftop event space and sculpture garden, and sprawling views of the Mighty Mississippi River from the shaded River Window.
The new museum space is set to open in December. Until then, make plans to visit the current museum property in Overton Park.
Brooks Museum Hours and Admission
The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is open Wednesday through Sunday. Adult admission is $18, while tickets for seniors and students (with ID) are $15 and children 5-17 are $10.
