Collage Dance presents: RISE, Cannon Center, Saturday and Sunday, $22-$65

Rise is a homecoming – a selection of works that reclaim joy, tradition, and cultural legacy.  In the heart of winter, Collage takes the stage with a powerful program that honors resilience and collective strength, featuring world premieres and Memphis debuts that speak to the richness of Black identity and the beauty of forward motion.

THINGS TO DO ON FRIDAY

Black History Hike, T.O. Fuller Interpretive Park, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m., free to attend

Ranger Daulton will meet participants at the Interpretive Center and introduce you to places in T.O. Fuller State Park of historical significance as Tennessee's first park open for African-Americans. You will hike to different locations within the park to see the park's history with our own eyes. This hike is of moderate difficulty with elevations and uneven terrain. Please wear proper shoes and clothing. Free with registration. Recommended donation, $5.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Utah Jazz, FedExForum, 6 p.m., ticket prices vary

Cheer on the Memphis Grizzlies as they take on Utah Jazz at FedExForum! Experience the excitement of live NBA action, from big plays to crowd-fueled energy, right here in the heart of Downtown Memphis. 

A Century of Soul: Facing Our History, The Coronet, 7 p.m. - 8:45 p.m., $25-$30

Stax Music Academy proudly presents its highly anticipated annual live show – a powerful, music-driven stage production that celebrates the legacy, resilience, and influence of Black music across generations. A Century of Soul: Facing Our History follows a young musician named Charles as he begins to discover his voice, his purpose, and the powerful history behind the music he loves. Guided by friends and family, Charles journeys through the sacred sounds of the Black church, the classroom, the skating rink, and the legendary streets of Memphis.

Don Trip Live, Minglewood Hall. 8 p.m., $57/GA

Don Trip is coming home to Memphis, and it’s about to be legendary. The city that shaped his sound and sharpened his grind will feel that real, unfiltered energy live on stage. From classic records to new heat, this is more than a show, it’s a hometown celebration.

Young Adult Career and College Fair, Memphis Public Libraries Raleigh Branch, 10 a.m - 2 p.m., free to attend

Explore local employers, colleges, trade schools, training programs, and community opportunities all in one lively, low-pressure event designed just for teens and young adults. Whether you’re mapping out your future or still figuring out what interests you, this fair gives you the chance to ask questions, try hands-on activities, and connect with real people who want to help you thrive.

Super Saturday - Lunar New Year, Brook Museum, 10 a.m. - Noon, free to attend

It's time to celebrate the Lunar New Year by making some noise! Stop by this week's Super Saturday to make drums - used commonly in Lunar New Year celebrations to scare away bad spirits. We'll transform plates, paint, ribbon, and beads into drums. Registration is required. Spots are limited, so secure your place today!

Bluff City Fire & Ice Polar Bear Plunge and Chili Cook-Off, Tiger Lane, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Enjoy the 19th Annual Chili Cook-off and the 30th Annual Polar Bear Plunge! The Chili Cook-Off kicks off at 10:30 a.m., featuring red chili, salsa, and people’s choice divisions. Taste-test all the chili and vote for just $5! Then, at 2:30 p.m., brave souls can plunge into frigid waters to benefit the Special Olympics of Greater Memphis. Entry fee is $50 per person/team. Don't forget to wear your wackiest costume for a chance to win the Golden Plunger!

Peanut Butter & Jam: Rachel Rodriguez, GPAC, 10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m., free to attend

Rachel Rodriguez is returning to GPAC with her engaging bilingual show “My Voice Is My Instrument/Mi voz es mi instrumento.” This program offers children a wonderful opportunity to explore the richness of Mexican culture through captivating stories, music, and movement. During the show, Rachel will share traditional Mexican folk songs alongside her original tunes, all created to help young learners discover the potential of their own voices. This interactive, bilingual experience will encourage children to actively listen, sing, dance, and even learn some Spanish!

Mardi Paws, Ghost River Brewery & Tap Room South Main, Noon - 4 p.m., $20-$25

Get ready to let the good times roll at Mardi Paws, a fun filled afternoon benefiting Streetdog Foundation. Enjoy live music from Kaleidoscope while taking advantage of exclusive drink and food specials available with your ticket purchase. Check out our raffle baskets packed with great goodies, shop brand new Streetdog Foundation merch, and do not miss the crowd favorite costume contest. The folks at Crosstown Brewing Co are throwing the best pirate bash yet, so grab your spyglass, eyepatch, and bandannas and come burn the ships together. Celebrate with the release of Burn the Ships Baltic Porter, and The Wayback Machine will take the stage from 6–9 PM.

Cheese & Charcuterie Workshop, Fear & Graze, 5:30 p.m., $70

Learn how to build your own charcuterie platter with Charcuterie Queen herself, Cristina McCarter of Feast & Graze.

Wonders in the Night, Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., $20

Enjoy an Enchanting story ballet by Company d celebrating imagination, adventure, and the wonders of nature. This one-of-a-kind production features dancers with Down syndrome, performing original works created by professional dance and theatre artists from Memphis, Tennessee. All choreography is to the masterful compositions of Howard Blake. This heartwarming performance highlights themes of shared humanity, the power of imagination, and the awe of nature.

Trevor Wallace is a stand-up comedian, writer & actor. Kandace Springs, GPAC, 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., tickets start at $24

Since the release of her debut album Soul Eyes in 2016, Kandace Springs has solidified her position as one of the premiere jazz/soul singers of our time. Her musical journey began when her father brought home an old upright piano that a family friend was throwing out; within weeks she had taught herself to play the theme from Soul Train. Suitably impressed, her father arranged for lessons from friend and neighbor Reggie Wooten, of the renowned Wooten Brothers.

Aidan Osias, Lina Beach, Zoë Dominguez, and Curtis B. Scott Live, B. Side, 8 p.m., $10

Celebrating an incredible night of Memphis music with Aidan Osias, Lina Beach, Zoë Dominguez, and Curtis B. Scott, and the upcoming release of Osias' newest single, "Can't Keep Getting Away," out February 24.

Known for his quick wit, fearless honesty, and hilarious storytelling, Williams has become one of the most in-demand comedians in the country. Fans can expect a night of big energy and even bigger punchlines as he takes the stage for an unforgettable performance.
