Mempho Music Fest 2017 / Adrian Berryhill

One of Memphis' newer music festivals, Mempho, has just announced — after taking a year off due to COVID-19 — that it will make a comeback Oct. 1-3, 2021, at Radians Amphitheater at Memphis Botanic Garden. The team behind the fest is committed to working with local and state health officials to create a safe experience and just announced its lineup (more on that below!).

The MEMPHO experience ties together music, food and nature.

Since its inception, Mempho has hosted acts from Janelle Monae to Brandi Carlile, Wu-Tang Clan to The Raconteurs. And you can always count on the fest to spotlight local musicians through specially curated sets. Past local spotlights have featured Memphis luminaries including DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, blues legend Bobby Rush and the alt/country/rock band Lucero. For 2021, the lineup looks like this (* denotes performers with roots in Memphis or the Mississippi Delta):

Widespread Panic (2 nights)
The Avett Brothers
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats
Black Pumas
Lucinda Williams
Billy Strings
Moon Taxi
Julien Baker*

Christone "Kingfish" Ingram*
Andy Frasco & the U.N.
Will Hoge
Southern Avenue*
Liz Brasher*
The City Champs*
Dirty Streets*
The Wilkins Sisters*

Seeing the line-up is enough to get music fans excited, but imagine how being at Mempho feels: You’re surrounded by the oasis of Memphis Botanic Garden, a 96-acre green space full of wooded, manicured and themed gardens, each with its own aesthetic. Also, the Incendia Dome will be back for Mempho 2021. This geodesic dome featuring a live DJ and dancing under a ceiling of undulating flame is a fest feature Mempho fans have come to love. And while you'll feel like you're worlds away, the garden is nestled in the heart of the city, near the original shops and restaurants of East Memphis.
