Piano Goddess: A Magical Night of Piano-Powered Storytelling

Musicians Kyra Gordon (San Francisco, CA), Kathy Zhou, and Keenya Creates cordially invite you to their Piano Goddess songwriters showcase. In this intimate acoustic setting these three acclaimed pianists and singer-songwriters will take turns “in the round”, performing one original song at a time, until the night is over! Come join us at the Lamplighter Lounge to get inspired and hear the stories behind the music. This intimate performance is your chance to discover three diverse, highly-acclaimed artists and get a "behind the curtain" look at their songwriting process. Most of all you’ll be moved by their unique and sincere storytelling, across styles and genres. 

If you wandered into a Kyra Gordon show, you’d be struck by the powerful vocals, deft touch on the keyboard, and command of the room. Watching her perform original songs with disarmingly personal lyrics, punctuated with spoken tales from her extensive travels, you’d feel the conviction of a singer, songwriter, and storyteller with a firm grasp of her creative voice, an artist who has arrived. Gordon has performed nationally and internationally; recognized for her recent work, on ‘Loving Janis,’ a one woman show she created as a tribute to Janis Joplin and Janis Ian, two of her formative influences. Her debut album, ‘Soul Of A Showgirl,’ garnered rave reviews for its incisive lyrics and beguiling melodies. It received national airplay and charted #1 on the RMR’s Top 50 Americana Country Albums in Aug ‘22. Kathy Zhou is a genre-bending piano-powered songwriter whose signature sound combines her piano virtuosity with imaginative folk lyrics and a hauntingly whimsical voice. Her mesmerizing style and presence captivate audiences, inviting an atmosphere of avant-garde magic and prompting heartfelt reflection and discussion. Painting an emotional arc buffered by a dreamlike stream of consciousness, her pieces keep audiences on their toes with unique twists and unexpected turns. In 2023, Kathy’s music video to her single, “Strange Child,” was a finalist in the international Indie Memphis Film Festival. In 2024, her performance of the song placed in the regional semifinals of the TN Songwriters Week competition. In 2025, Kathy released her second single “Storm Eulogy.” Kathy’s debut EP , “A Vivid, Magic, Scene” (releasing October 2025) is a collection of songs about processing the past and coming to terms with the present, drawing on nature/fantasy themes. Memphis’ own Keenya Creates captivates as a singer, rapper, storyteller & musician. Her music is a savory blend of soul and hip-hop, slow-simmered in folk traditions and served with love. Yella P of the critically acclaimed blues duo Memphississipi Sounds says, “Keenya's music is like a hug from a friend you never knew you had. It’s unexpected and wonderful at the same time.” Her upcoming EP, “Wings of Sankofa” (Spring 2026), is a bold retrospective that continues the legacy of hip-hop culture as a means to elevate and entertain.
