Elvis Week

Elvis Week is a week-long celebration every August in Memphis dedicated to the King of Rock and Roll. You haven’t experienced Graceland or Memphis until you’ve celebrated with thousands of his most loyal fans.

Check out the best tribute artists from around the world competing for the title of Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist. Contestants shake, rattle ‘n’ roll at the Orpheum Theatre in front of judges and a sold out, screaming crowd. Tickets for this event usually go fast, so get them early.

Elvis Presley Fan Club events and meetups are sprinkled throughout the week. These groups often amp up the excitement with appearances by some of Elvis’ closest friends, special announcements, awards and autograph signings. If you’re an Elvis Insider, rub elbows and dance the night away while the DJ spins some of Elvis’ greatest hits at invite-only private parties.

Bring your running shoes and make sure you’re nice and stretched because the annual Elvis Presley 5k Run, Walk, Rock & Roll will course through the streets of Whitehaven on Saturday morning. This event benefits a local Mid-South Charity.  The run is intense - often one of the hottest and fastest held in the city.  If you’re not into running, the view along the sideline will keep you entertained – many participants dress in Elvis gear and apparel.

Prizes, movie screenings and concerts add the cream to your Elvis Week pie. Many times these shows will contain never-before-seen footage or music, original band members and state of the art video projections.  Elvis aficionados will want to take note and grab the front row.

All of the events, of course, center around the Candlelight Vigil. Near the end of the week-long celebration, fans gather at the gates of Graceland and Elvis’ gravesite in quiet remembrance of the King of Rock and Roll.

Tours of the Graceland Mansion, car museum, special exhibits and airplanes are always available. Take your camera because photo opportunities and memories will be plenty.
