More Wine Fun: Events and Places To Go

– The annual Beale Street Wine Race may be less about wine appreciation and more about a bacchanalian kick-off to Memphis in May, but the tradition of local industry folks racing with trays of wine is worth checking out. Read more about it here.

Memphis Botanic Garden has a monthly Vine To Wine tasting series from March to October. Each event features 8 or so wines, often served with hors d’oeuvres.

– The Brooks Museum hosts a Wine + Food series, which kicks off with Brooks Uncorked in spring and continues with winemaker dinners and other events.

Delta Blues Winery in Lakeland offers five samples for $5 and periodic live music.

Dixon Gallery & Gardens hosts Wine Down events 3-4 times a year with food pairings, entertainment, and access to the galleries and grounds.

Napa Cafe’s dine-in wine cellar isn’t technically underground, but it is a dining room surrounded by hundreds of wine bottles and bathed in candlelight. Ask for the cellar specifically when you make a reservation; it seats two easily and four cozily.

– Drop by Old Millington Vineyard & Winery for samples and to purchase any of the 12 or so wines made on site. They also offer live music on Sunday afternoons during spring and summer.

Drink responsibly, please. With Uber and Lyft so easy to use (and cab numbers easy to remember – 901-577-7777), there’s no reason to drive if you’ve been imbibing.

Cheers!
