Where to Get a Healthy Meal in Memphis

We'll concede this: Memphis is not known for its healthy food. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t options for those of us looking for things a bit more lean and green. Here are just a few of the many eateries where you can find healthy options that are still delicious.

1. Cheffies (483 High Point Terrace)

Cheffie’s in High Point gets the top spot because of its dedication to the ultimate “healthy” meal: the salad. The build-your-own salad option is a great way to add proteins and veggies to your greens, and the portion is big enough that you’ll feel satisfied for hours. Just go easy on the dressing, cheese and bacon bits.

2. City Market (66 S. Main St., Ste. 100, and 836 S. Cooper St.)

If you’re Downtown or in Midtown, this deli/grocery features a lunchtime salad bar and juice/smoothie bar, and pre-made salads and wraps are available all the time.

3. Ultimate Foods (click here for locations)

Ultimate Foods has pre-portioned breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks, most gluten-free with lean protein and veggies. Order by meal plan, a la carte, or for delivery.

4. Seasons 52 (6085 Poplar Ave.)

Seasons 52 is not locally owned, but everything on the menu is 475 calories or less. It’s your standard American/eclectic fare, but with a focus on high-quality, seasonal ingredients in an upscale environment.

5. Cosmic Coconut (5101 Sanderlin Center)

If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, try this 100% vegan juice bar for fresh-squeezed juices (like the Cuke Skywalker), smoothies, coffee, tea and small snacks like fruit bowls and vegan chocolate.

6. Bedrock Eats and Sweets (327 S. Main St.)

Bedrock Eats and Sweets sources from local farmers markets to prepare pre-made healthy meals (like the pork enchilada omelet above) and bulk items from zucchini “spaghetti” to gluten-free espresso brownies. Dine in, grab-and-go or pre-order.

7. Lettuce Eat (6641 Poplar Ave.)

At this fast-casual salad bar on steroids, pick your freshly chopped lettuce, then choose from a huge selection of veggies – from edamame to kalamata olives – and add protein, cheese, and one of the 10 homemade dressings. “Crunchies” (croutons, sunflower seeds, etc.) are optional.
