William Christopher Handy was known as the "Father of the Blues" When he moved to Memphis in 1909 from Alabama, after touring through Mississippi, he settled in a two-room shotgun house on Jeanette Place in South Memphis. In the mid-1980s, the home was moved to Beale Street in downtown Memphis, Tennessee and restored where it serves as an interpretive center operated by Heritage Tours.
