Walk the Red Carpet for Movies and Broadway Shows at the Orpheum Theatre

The Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, Tennessee is the ultimate backdrop to a perfect evening. Let the lights of the marquee guide your way inside to the lush brocade draperies, gilded moldings, and ornate crystal chandelier. Simply stated, The Orpheum Theatre is lavish. Whether bringing the whole family for one of the Summer Movie Series or attending the premier of “Memphis, The Musical,” you’ll soon find out why the Orpheum is the South’s Finest Theatre.

The Orpheum is host to more than just Broadway productions and concerts. Take it from a local – the Summer Movie Series is anything but a typical night at the movies. Favorites such as “Gone with the Wind,” “Casablanca,” and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” beg to be viewed on the big screen. Many begin with a serenade by the Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ. To add to the nostalgia, costume contests (who can resist Dr. Frank-N-Furter in fishnets?) and trivia quizzes precede some of the movies. Of course, all winners receive special prizes.

In addition, The Orpheum is celebrating all-things-Memphis with their Memphis Film Fest including the box office hits “The Rainmaker,” “The Blind Side” and “Walk the Line.” Not only is it fun – it’s affordable:  $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Settle back with your ice-cold drink and buttery popcorn for a great movie experience.

Meet your friends for dinner at any one of the award-winning downtown restaurants. Rent the limo and head to The Orpheum because this Broadway Season promises to be the best season ever. Don’t miss Tony Award-winning “Memphis, The Musical” which begins its tour from the stage of The Orpheum Theatre. Included in the lineup for 2011-12 are favorites such as “Million Dollar Quartet,” “Mamma Mia,” “Les Miserables,” and “La Cage Aux Folles.”

Tickets are on sale at the Orpheum Theatre Box Office, Booksellers at Laurelwood, online at Ticketmaster.com and by phone at 901-525-3000.
