Clare Leighton’s wood engravings can be viewed as nostalgic vignettes of rural life.  Memphis College of Art Professor Maritza Davila will discuss the larger issues that Leighton’s work encompasses and how these topics still resonate today.  History, tools and process of wood engraving will be analyzed as well as why Ms. Leighton’s chosen medium, wood engraving, ties in so well with her work conceptually.
