Central Gardens Historic District Announces 2010 Home & Garden Tour
The Central Gardens Association will hold its 34th Annual Home & Garden Tour on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 1pm to 6pm.
This year’s event showcases a unique set of homes that represent diverse architectural styles including excellent examples of Arts & Crafts, Mediterranean and Modern architecture. The featured houses are located on the major boulevards of Central, Harbert, and Peabody within this historic section of Midtown Memphis now listed as a Level 3 Arboretum in Tennessee.
In addition to the eclectic architecture, the homes are notable for the history of their owners. One featured Mediterranean-style house was home to an innovative entrepreneur and first-generation Italian immigrant, Fred Montesi, and later to renowned photographer, William Eggleston. The original owner of another tour home was Emile Witzmann, an early Memphis musician featured in Memphis Music Before the Blues. As a group, the homes are rich in Memphis history and in architectural character.
Tickets for the tour will be on sale for $12 in late August at various locations around Memphis including Davis-Kidd Book Store, The Women’s Exchange and 1910 Frame Works. Tickets will be available at each of the tour houses on the day of the tour for $15.
