The National Ornamental Metal Museum is the only institution in the United States devoted exclusively to the preservation and promotion of fine metalwork and they have a stunning permanent collection to prove it. This unassuming two story building houses than 3,000 objects with some dating back 500 years displaying unique pieces from contemporary American sculpture to Gothic European lock boxes. With additional changing exhibits (about every 10 weeks), you can see the best contemporary metal art by national and international smiths. Make sure to check out the Museum Store for one-of-a-kind gift items.

The grounds alone are a good reason to visit the museum. Ornate gates open onto scenic 100-year-old-trees, outdoor sculptures, metal cast gazebo, and a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River making it a perfect backdrop for a special occasion: wedding, birthday, family gathering or photo opportunity.

The museum is home to the metalsmith community and has a working blacksmith shop. If you have a piece of metalwork that needs mending, the museum hosts annual Repair Days where, for a fee, artisans will put your treasures back to working condition. Classes are available where you can learn the art of metalwork from local artisans.
