Elvis Birthday Celebration 2012

Graceland becomes the nucleus for music lovers this January as thousands gather for the fun-filled, four-day celebration of Elvis’ birthday. And as you would expect, Memphis is gift wrapped for the King and his followers with concerts, contests and cake this January 5 – 8.

If you are a true Elvis fan, put on your blue suede shoes and enjoy a night of live music with Terry Mike Jeffrey – a fan favorite – as he replicates Elvis’ iconic performances. Mike and his band will join the Memphis Symphony Orchestra’s Elvis Birthday Pops for an Elvis Tribute show that is sure please even the most dedicated fans. Imagine the best-loved Elvis songs accompanied by strings, brass and percussion filling the halls of the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. This event promises to be larger than life.

Have an extra slice of Elvis-heaven at the 2012 Gospel concert. Former members of J.D. Sumner and The Stamps will be singing and sharing their memories of knowing Elvis both on and off the stage. Also, Elvis’ home church for many years (First Assembly of God, Memphis) will be center stage with performances by local quartet, Soul City. Gospel music was close to Elvis’ heart and awarded him the only Grammy he ever won. Seating will be limited so buying early is suggested.

Locals know that when Elvis fans around the world gather in Memphis parties break out all over the place. Join the fun with trivia contests, bingo nights at the Heartbreak Hotel, plus special insider’s and fan club meetings leading up to the revered day of January 8. Proclaimed “Elvis Presley Day” by Memphis and Shelby County officials, the pomp and circumstance ends with birthday cake and coffee for everyone!

Graceland will be all decked out in its finest holiday lights and decorations through the big day and in honor of Elvis’ birthday, Graceland will really put on the “hound” dog by offering special additional exhibits. The exhibit, Christmas Through the Years, will feature the Presley’s 1957 Christmas card (their first Christmas at Graceland), toys given to Lisa for her first Christmas, Christmas cards the Presley’s received from fans, plus Elvis’ Christmas albums in the TV room. The Meditation Garden will also offer nightly walk-ups giving you a chance to pay your respects to the King.

On January 5, fans will have the opportunity to be the first to see “Elvis on Tour” - Graceland’s newest exhibit that takes an in-depth look at Elvis’ multi-city tour with artifacts including jewelry, stage clothing, rarely-seen photos, videos and more.

Come to Memphis and join us in saying, “Happy Birthday, Elvis.”
