CVB History

The Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau was created in 1925 for the purpose of promoting Memphis as a desired destination for conventions and tourists.

By the late 70s, tourism had become an important and diverse industry. Its profitability was increasingly recognized as bureaus were formed around the country to specifically promote tourism. 

Through the years, the community has seen the tourism industry grow to be one of its largest industries. The Memphis tourism industry currently supports over 50,000 tourism related jobs and has an estimated tourism revenue of $2.9 billion.

The Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau, the official marketing and tourism organization for Memphis and Shelby County, is a private, not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to building the local economy and the community's positive image through tourism and convention development, major events and destination marketing.
